Norfolk Southern’s (NS) 47th Street Intermodal Terminal (C47) is one of four NS intermodal terminals in Chicago. The other terminals are: NS Chicago (Landers Yard), Calumet, and 63rd Street.

C47 has a capacity of 700,000 lifts per year. According to the 2013 National Transportation Atlas Database, this terminal is located on the NS Chicago Line Subdivision. Amtrak has trackage rights over this line.

Norfolk Southern plans to expand the intermodal terminal by 84 acres or 57 percent. The expansion entails twenty city blocks in an area bounded by Garfield Boulevard, 61st Street, Wallace Street, and Stewart Avenue. The area would be south of Garfield on the accompanying map. Englewood community efforts to improve community spaces, industrial land use buffers, and air quality were part of the negotiations.
