Union Pacific (UP) and the Iowa Interstate Railroad System (IAIS) share a facility in Council Bluffs, IA close to Omaha, NE.  UP also calls this facility the Council Bluffs Railport. It is a COFC facility that processes less than 65,000 lifts per year. The facility is located in the I-80 corridor but the facility can only be accessed via I-29.

Intermodal Connectors

There are no intermodal connectors to the UP/IAIS facility. According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the criteria for intermodal connector status is as follows: 50,000 TEUs per year, or 100 trucks per day, in each direction on the principal connecting route, or other units measured that would convert to more than 100 trucks per day in each direction. Trucks are defined as large single-unit trucks or combination vehicles carrying freight. The intermodal connector that appears on the map provides access to pipeline terminal south of I-29 and Highway 92. The NHS route on the map is a newly designated MAP-21 NHS route.
