Canadian National’s (CN) Joliet Intermodal Terminal (JIT) is located in Will County, IL. This terminal is one of two CN intermodal terminals in the Chicago area. The other is CN Chicago located in Harvey, IL.
Joliet Yard was recently expanded to include an intermodal ramp. Although it is a smaller facility (30-acre), than other intermodal facilities (BNSF and Union Pacific) in the vicinity, it is positioned to take advantage of the clustering of warehouses and distribution centers in Joliet and Elwood. Intermodal operations started in June 2013 with daily service to the West Coast.
The facility also has a transloading facility for grain destined for export. This facility is considered an emerging facility.
According to the 2013 National Transportation Atlas Database, the CN Matheson Subdivision runs through this intermodal terminal.
