AASHTO Summary of the Proposed MAP-21 Reauthorization Act

Mid-America Freight Coalition

On May 12, 2014, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee released the text of the proposed MAP-21 Reauthorization Act. AASHTO has released a summary of this legislation.

Overall, the MAP-21 Reauthorization Act provides a total of $265 billion for highway programs over six years and continues the core program structure put in place in MAP-21 including the National Highway Performance Program (NHPP), Surface Transportation Program (STP), Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) and Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ). The bill also creates a new National Freight Program that distributes funding to state DOTs via formula. Funding is continued at current levels through FY 2020, adjusted for inflation.

For more information about this proposed legislation–including $6 billion over six years for a new National Freight Program–consult the AASHTO summary.
