This terminal is one of five UP intermodal terminals in the Chicago area. The others are Global I in Chicago, Global III-Rochelle, Global IV-Joliet, and Yard Center, in Dolton, IL.<br \/>\nAccess to the terminal is via I-290 via Manheim or Lake Street. Interstate I-294 borders the facility but does not have an exit to Lake Street. The Global II facility handles both trailers and containers.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.up.com\/investors\/attachments\/secfiling\/2013\/upc10k_020813.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UP\u2019s 2012 Form 10-K<\/a>, Global II ranks eighth in terms of volume among UP intermodal facilities. The intermodal terminal as shown in the access map is co-located with Proviso Yard, the fifth\u00a0largest yard for Union Pacific handling 1,300 cars per day in 2012 and 1,400 cars per day in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Global II, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rita.dot.gov\/bts\/sites\/rita.dot.gov.bts\/files\/publications\/national_transportation_atlas_database\/2013\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2013 National Transportation Atlas Database<\/a>, is located on the Geneva Subdivision. The UP Milwaukee Subdivision connects to the Geneva in Proviso Yard. Metra and the short line Chicago South Shore &amp; South Bend Railroad (CSS) have trackage rights over this subdivision.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.createprogram.org\/projects.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CREATE\u2019s B-2 project<\/a> is associated with Global II and Proviso yard. Construction is underway to improve the flow of commuter and trains with the addition of a 3.5 mile third mainline. Other benefits include increased pedestrian safety at passenger stations along the METRA line.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/midamericafreight.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/access-up-global2.pdf\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4932\" title=\"access-up-global2\" src=\"http:\/\/midamericafreight.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/access-up-global2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"699\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Intermodal Connectors<\/h2>\n<p>There are two intermodal connectors to the Global II facility: South Railroad Avenue and Lake Street (US-20).<\/p>\n<h2>Intermodal Lanes<\/h2>\n<p>Global II serves domestic and limited international markets.
